About The Craft: Kashmiri Pure Kani Silk Jamavar Sarees are woven using an ancient and intricate technique that dates back centuries. The weaving process involves wooden 'Kani' spools, each carrying a different colored thread, carefully interlaced to create elaborate patterns without any embroidery or printing. Weavers follow a coded pattern called ‘Talim,’ which guides them in crafting the design, sometimes taking months or even years to complete a single saree. The motifs, deeply inspired by Persian and Mughal art, include paisleys, florals, chinar leaves, and intricate vines, symbolizing nature and cultural richness.
